Tiger Mom When Amy Chua’s book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom, and the excerpt from The Wall Street Journal became published to the public; all hell broke loose! Ms. Chua received thousands of comment responses on her online article from Wall Street and many great response essays. In my research paper I will tell you what I got from Amy’s parenting style, and other critics of the article; adding my own thoughts about this topic at the end. Chua states the reason why Chinese mothers are tiger mom’s is because “Chinese parents can order their kids to get straight A’s” They do that to their kids because they believe that their kids can get A’s if they just try harder; not caring about the kids self-esteem. To western moms self-esteem is more important than success. Most parent phrase their child if they get a B on a test or such when ‘tiger moms’ would snap and call then degrading names. Parents owe everything to their children, self-esteem and happiness.
David Brooks; publisher of Amy Chua’s A Wimp believes Amy’s being too soft with her kids. Saying that she talking away the social skills they will need in life. “I wish she recognized that in some important ways the school cafeteria is more intellectually demanding then the library.” Meaning that by making them come home everyday right after school, she is taking away their time to mingle with other students their age. Social things in school make kids have better people skills; therefore making them ready for the world. Ayelet Waldon, publisher of In Defense of the Quality, Ambivalent Preoccupied Western Mom. Is a western mom of two girls, 14 and 16 grew up in a “typical western house hold” as Amy Chua would say. Her Jewish mother let them go to sleepovers, let them excel in what they wanted to, unlike Amy’s “tiger mom” antics, but believes “Roaring like a tiger turns some kids into pianists who debuted at Carnegie Hall but only crushed some.” Ayelet’s youngest daughter Rosie was dyslexic; Rosie then seven showed her mom a class she could take for one month four hours a day. Even though she would cry every day after, she did not want to quit (even after mom and dad begged her to give up). Proving that because she was passionate about learning to read; she succeeded. “Many American parents suffer from the delusion that, with careful enough control, a child can be made perfect.” Says Hanna Rosin, publisher of Mother Inferior. She allows her children to do what they want, she’s very relaxed with her parenting and even plays little games with her two year old son. She climes that “success will not make you happy”; witch in my opinion is completely true! Hours of piano a day or naps and school plays.. Ilyon Woo publisher of An Asian Father’s Gift: Permission to Fail was raised the exact opposite way that Amy raised her seemingly perfect daughters. Her father did not push her like Amy but told her to see what would happen if she failed. “In that moment, though I would not relies it until later, my father set me free.” Ilyon tells readers that statement, after her father’s encouraging words to fail. No all eastern parenting has to include ‘tiger mom’ antics. There are some small things that I believe Chua is doing okay with. Wanting her children to succeed in life is what all parents want for their future. But we all know that no bathroom breaks is not part of that. I strongly agree with Hanna Rosin’s opinion of this whole topic; meaning I strongly disagree with Ms. Chua. Amy’s parenting is not only intimating but wrong. No child should have to deal with a mom such as Amy Chua. We’ve talked so much about Amy Chua that I never want to hear her name again! Is her parenting style crude? Yes, Amy is crazy, no one that brought life into this world should treat their child like that. Parenting is a hard job, and most parents do good with what they have. Failure essay. Lewis Thomas biologists; is his theory that “we are built to make good to come out of the situation mistakes” correct or a whole lot of b.s. ? I believe that his theory is somewhat accurate and not so much. Not every time you make a mistake you learn from it. Sometimes it doesn’t take a mistake for something. In my opinion, Lewis could be right but not fully. Penicillin, the only effective bacteria killing vaccine in 1929 is a great example of how a mistake turned into something great, and still used worldwide. It all started when Alexander Fleming was studying staphylococcus a super deadly bacteria. He had a stack of unwashed staphylococcus trays formed some sort of mold that secreted something that was killing away the deadly bacteria. Indeed falling back to Lewis Thomas’s theory, you learn from your mistakes. One story having to do with myself and learning from a mistake I made was when I broke my elbow. I was trying to show off because my friend Jessica was better at doing kart wheels than I was. Me being the completive sole that I am, I tried to do something I could not do at the time . There for, not knowing how to do the simple trick I landed right on my left elbow. I went to the emergency room and I vowed to this day that I will never do a kart wheel again. I learned that it’s not cool to say you can do things that you cannot do. In Shakespeare’s novel Romeo and Juliet, the Capulet’s and the Montague’s were royal family rivals who’s children fell in love. In the end, Romeo and Juliet commit a kind of love suicide because they could never be happy together because of their family’s hatred. Thus, when they died their parents learned to late that the family issues had gone too far. Lewis Thomas was a brilliant man, his discovery from a simple mistake of not washing the dishes made something still used by doctors today and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. I Agree with his theory.
Cheating Dear Ventura County Star Readers; should the school officials be able to tell a teacher to make their class easer? I believe that that is not okay, and I’ll explain my reasoning’s. Christine Pelton, biology teacher in Kansas discovered that 28 of her sophomore biology class had plagiarized their semester projects. Ms. Pelton failed all 28 projects with a zero. The school officials did not thing that was wise of her, and didn’t like her decision one bit. The School board told her to go easer on her students rather than let all 28 students fail the project. Christine did not like that they were telling her to change her teaching, there for she quit her job at the Piper, Kansas high school. The school board was out of line in my opinion, they cannot tell a teacher to change their teaching and grading style. By them trying to force her to change, she quit and I would have done the same thing. I Believe that the kids would learn more if they just kept the ‘F’ and learned that it’s not okay to cheat; instead of them just losing their teacher and not just brush the ’f’ off their shoulders. Their for not learning that copying and pasting isn’t okay.

MEDEA. Medea, the woman the play “Medea” by Euripides is based on is a murderer! She killed the children she claimed to love, to get back at her husband who wanted to divorce her to become more successful. Murder is murder, even 2,400 years ago. Jason did nothing to harm Medea and she kills him new wife and children; Jason is the victim of this story. Medea was just a heart broken woman. Her husband breaking her heart making her kill her own brother and father, to leave everyone and everything she once had. All for Jason’s promises to break in the end. For a younger, prettier princess Glauce, but claimed only for success. But Jason was untimely the victim in the story. His crazy ex-wife killed his new wife and her father king Creon. Also, not only leaving Jason with nothing but leaving her with nothing as well. Medea is a sick minded freak. Only a horrible person and a terrible mother could kill her kids. Medea is a cold blooded killer. Killing her own blood. She killed the only things both her and Jason had left in their life. Leaving them both with no one but their self. In my opinion Jason is ultimately the victim, lost both love’s and his children. Medea is a sick sick woman.. She had to kill her own blood to get back at him, Murder is murder even back then.
